I plan on getting PSO for GameCube, but I don't have a broadband adapter. Is it worth the purchase for only single player mode?

I hear its a ok single player, nothing spectacular. Rent it first.

Single player mode? Nah. No reason to get it really then. However, if you wanna play either a 56K or Broadband, then it is worth it.

You cant rent it either, Just get it and have fun and be sure to get a modem and BBA someday. (Another shipment of the BBA is supposed to come in on the 19th :D)
