It has come to my awareness that randomly while surfing the web my browser (IE) will go to microsoft.com, what do you think?

It is one of the useless features in IE.

I think it might be trying to get you to upgrade something. As for what that might be, I have no idea.

Nah, as far as I know Microsoft has no need to hack your computer... it already owns most of it. :)

Do you have microsoft.com set up as your home page? As someone's already mentioned, your AutoUpdate might be screwed up. I have never seen Microsoft use pop-up ads, but with them you never know...

microsoft is trying it's hardest to not break into your house and nail a copy of a "trial" version of windows to your monitor that runs out in 5 days and makes your old OS unrecoverable forcing you to buy their OS and pay for the repair of the monitor that YOU supposedly put a nail through. =\

that happens periodically with IE... trying to get you to upgrade their stuff.
i usually click the "home" button right when i see it's not going to load the homepage.

as with pretty MUCH ALL PROGRAMS it does that for upgrade purposes... Theyre not trying to take over anymore than Real Player or webshots

There are options you can set to prevent it from automatically showing you updates... Atleast in IE5.

Yes. Microsoft has not enough money, so they are spending time making your browser go only to microsoft sites. It's all a part of their new technology called "KILINUX" that they are using. If you don't boycott MS products right now, they are going to come in your house and take you away and train you to be in their shock troops. I'm protecting myself. Here's the things I did because I read an article by some guy who said he worked for microsoft and he used words like "WinXP dev team" so I know he was telling the truth. Here's some hints he gave me to make sure Microsoft doesn't get in your computer and they don't know when you look at porn:

Use Linux or Unix: Linux is not Microsoft. In fact, Linux isn't owned by anyone. So, if we all use Linux and not Microsoft, and the Linux people decide what software works with it, there's too many people for there to be antitrust.
Download movies and mp3s from the internet. Microsoft Palladium is going to make it to where you cannot download music and movies like the Constitution says you should be able to. Every time you download "Debbie does Dallas" or "Ja Rule - I sleep with goatse.mp3", you kill a Microsoft employee. This is good.
Turn off your monitor when it goes to the microsoft site. When you go to these sites, it's because a microsoft hacker is in your system. If you turn off your monitor, he can't see anymore. If you manage to shut down the computer before he can get back out, he dies because his soul got shut down with your computer. See next point.
Unplug your ports. MS hackers can only get in through your ports. Right now, to protect myself, I have unplugged my modem, power cord, monitor, sound card, mouse, and monitor power cord. I only have the keyboard plugged in because that's all I need. Right when I need to post, I will plug in the monitor, power cord, and modem, make the post, then unplug everything. If a hacker gets in while you are plugged in, quickly unplug the modem. Then, he is stuck inside your computer! Hurry and take the fan off of the processor so you can roast his soul!

Edit: I broke 100 on that one! :) but no one cares.

Slowly Microsoft makes your computer life a part of them. Microsofts main goal right now it to charge developers money when making software on a Windows PC. No one right now pays MS anything to make software on a Windows PC.

They didn't put a P3 733 in the Xbox because it's fast. At some point MS hopes that Xbox might become something more then a game system. The next version of Long horn will have that Palladium technology in it and who knows you may need to pay MS rights to use it.

Don't worry MS don't own your soul.... yet. :mischief:

Perhaps it was because one was indirectly requested?

And what will stop people from switching to Linux when MS does this? Trust me, MS is not stupid. They probably do want to do all that crap, but they can't. Not in a free market. I'm telling you, I'd switch to Linux if MS made it so I had to pay to use specific hardware. So half the internet wouldn't work without this Palladium? You'd be surprised how many corporations would notice the large dip in their profits and quickly produce non-Palladium versions of their websites.

Paranoia is cool, but after it gets to the point where you don't think rationally, it loses its charm.
