Fark and PA - Conservative Morass?

I was checking out the forums on PA and Fark. They require you to pay in order to participate, and they're doing a good job of pursuading me to foot the bill. The forums seems to be overrun by those of conservative mindset. Now, we're not talking reasonable, garden-variety, personal-privacy conservatives; we're talking raging, ceasaresque, ignore civil rights, fuck-every-country-but-us conservatives. Fark can do whatever it wants, but I'm very disturbed that my favorite web-comic is covered by such historically ignorant statements like "Enough with the liberal 'chicken little' philosophy. Man, it's old already." (in responce to someone saying maybe letting Bush create a parallel legal system where the bill of rights doesn't apply isnt such a hot idea).

I'm wondering if anyone here has accounts on these services, and if so, how the prevailing climate survives? Are the left-wing ideologists on theses web pages just not very bright?
