Well, this certainly sucks.
I might be losing the internet at home, which is a huge hit to me as it will largely affect my college work as well as things like My website and forums. :(
Right now I'm lucky to get online at home, but once that is gone, I'll only have the college I-net to go off, and thats to crap for me to even begin to bitch about (I mean, at college I can't even check my Yahoo e-mail). Either way, I'm not leaving the forums or anything else, it's just the time I have online is going to be a lot less and a lot more in-frequent until we get everything fixed up.

Well, until next time....

Don't fear obs, check if the college blocks the altavista translate. You'll need to set your mode in your profile to not browse the board with cookies to use the following method of firewall evasion.

FIREWALL-B-GONE:

In just these 4 easy steps, you can view pornography and other questionable materials through the schools firewall!

1. Visit the site:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/

2. On the page, a text box reads "Translate a Web page - Enter the Web address of the page you wish to translate". Inside the text box, enter the web adress:

http://www.megaproxy.com

A pulldown menu next to the box has a listing of language translation pairs. Select Chinese to English and click on the button translate.

OR

After typing the web adress, hit Tab, C, Tab, Space/Enter.

3. A website will appear with a banner across the top for AltaVista.com. In the lower half of the screen, there is a text box. Below the text box there is a button that says "CLICK HERE to switch to a secure 128bit SSL mode."

Click on "CLICK HERE"

4. In the text box, enter the desired site for surfing, and click on the button "SURF"

A new window will pop up with a legal statement, and a button. Book mark the site for easier return access.

OR:

Enter the website:
https://www.megaproxy.com/_enter/index.jsp?mpurl=www.google.com

Tried that - it still blocks the sites even with that even though sites not on the block list can be viewed using the translate trick.
They pretty much block everything that has keywords like 'Game' in it, but I'm suprised that they havent blocked AGN yet...
Of course, if I use a site with the keywords frequently enough, regardless of content, then I can pretty much gurantee blockage. (i.e. - my site obi.gaming-honor.com)

Thanks anyway ICH ;)

If they use Websense, you're in luck: It doesn't block AGN at my school, and the Altavista trick works. There are a lot of free anonymizers, all of which are blocked but you can access through Altavista, which if it transfers to a new window without Altavista, you can surf freely. http://sethf.com/anticensorware/bess/loophole.php is a useful site to know what you're up against. Also, if you use a different browser in school you sometimes can get through. I spend way too much time trying to bust the firewall at school. Can you tell?

It depends on what program your school is using. The link I added above is certainly helpful for some filter programs, and it should provide you with what you are up against, and a plan for surmounting it. What blocking system does your school have?
