As I was playing away at FF7 for the past week or so, a few ideas popped into my head. i noticed that FF7 was the only game in the series to my knowledge that confirms it takes place on earth. This can be confirmed with Sepheroth’s “Super Nova” attack. I believe that the FF games Do in fact take place on earth and are connected. In ff9, Cloud’s Materia Blade can be seen in the weapon shop in Limbulm. In fact, Zidane will comment on it if you press the button by it. This would put 9 after 7 theoretically. Also, Vivi is dressed in the traditional Black Mage garbs, so it has to be after 1. In technological advancement, FF9 is less advanced than 7, but if you se the last FMV sequence at the end of the credits of 7, you will see that Midgar has been reclaimed to planet, with no people. This leaves us with the impression that humans regressed technologically, which shows in 9. It also must be said that FF6 and 5 came before 7. In FF6, there is a major advancement from 1, but not to the degree of 9. It seems that it would be the prerequisite to 7 technologically, with M-tek armor and automatic guns. I am also sure 5 comes before 7 because of the note attached to Excaliber II , but since I have yet to play 5, I cannot say for sure. So, I have come to the conclusion that the games are actually in chronological order. I’m not gonna touch on Tactics because it’s just too hard to place, but I’d say somewhere after 1, before 6. Please add your comments and disagreements.

*edit* DAMMIT! Wrong game forum. Sorry.

4 could be on Earth too, it looks like Earth when using the Big Whale.. if that wasn't by the two moons.

Interesting. But I don't think they're in chronological order because of Cid's aging. In FF4 he looks old. In FF5 he looks REALLY old. But in FF6 he looks a lot younger, even though technology got alot better from 5 to 6. And what about FF8?

They are not sequels of eachother... Each take place in their own universe, and please don't say "what about Kingdom Hearts". All cameo appearances. Think of each game as an alternate reality, with the exception of the upcoming FFX-2, which is a real sequel to Final Fantasy X.

Don't forget that Cloud can travel through different worlds like he did in Kingdom Hearts. He must have traveled to Zidane's world and just... left a spare Buster Sword over there.

And in FFVIII, Cid is chunky, but younger than most of them.

Isn't anyone sick of cid yet though, every damn FF.
