If you can you should get a CD/Mp3 player hybrid. Might as well. ;)

I know this sounds stupid and obvious, but get plenty of ASP (Anti Skip Protection)

shit I picked up a good portable cd-player at a garage sale! and heres the best part!~it was only 7 bucks!!

It has plenty of esp, (never skips for me!), but I need to get better headphones!

-edit-also with the 7 dollar deal, I got a car kit, and some old pc speakers!! (dont ask:odd: )

ESP? Can you get the winning lottery numbers before they are drawn or anything? Or do you mean ASP? :p I'd rather ESP.

Nowadays you can get a great portable CD player for way less than $150. All but the cheapest ones (and by cheap I mean less than $30) have some form of skip protection. As Mottzilla pointed out, you can get a CD player that supports MP3/WMA audio, and you can also get one with a built-in radio tuner. I personally would probably get one with all three, as I can see myself using all of them.

Anyway, here are my recommendations. These links are to bestbuy.com, however you can probably find these models in plenty of other places as well.

CD player: http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11123250&m=58&cat=60&scat=247

CD player with tuner: http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11123251&m=58&cat=60&scat=247

CD/MP3/WMA player: http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11165009&m=58&cat=60&scat=247

CD/MP3/WMA with tuner: http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11150552&m=58&cat=60&scat=247 (if you want to spend all of that $150. There was a less expensive Rio model available, I guess it was discontinued.)

Two final recommendations: buy separate headphones - the ones included with the players suck for the most part, and buy good batteries, as probably only a digital camera (or a Game Gear back in the day) eats batteries worse.

EDIT: FYI, "ESP" is what Sony calls their anti-skip protection. Why no Sony models amongst the four models above? Personally, I think they're overcosted and ugly.

Never knew RCA was a division of Sony. I have an RCA cd player, works pretty damn good. Came with a damn good pair of headphones too. (i broke them though :() It was only around $50 too. The skip protection is awesome too. I have cd's that are impossible to listen to because of all the scratched that this cd player can play skip free.
