...I downloaded ZC Public Beta 163. First I got the Windows version, than the support archives, then the alegro dll. Ran it, got an internal error...

My Config....
AMD 300 megahertz
64 megs of ram
NO SOUND CARD (might be important)
ATI RAGE Fury MAXX running in unaccelerated mode (Display Settings -> Advanced -> Performance = None) (Might be important too, but I can't change the performance without a lockup on boot)

No sound card means no sound, that's all.

You should try the DOS version if you haven't already, it might run. The DOS version of build 163 runs alot better than the windows version on the computer I'm using now (350 Mhz, 128MB RAM). Another thing you could try is opening Zquest first then opening ZC.

Hmm... :reading: I remember that message. That foul... foul... message. I think it has something to do with the new ripped Z3 sounds. But that's only a guess. I know that it only happens when I fool around with the Z3 sounds, but it's still only a guess.

The windows version never worked for me.

Delete it all and fresh extract. Run Zquest-w with a switch of -res 320x240 or something maybe. Just make sure it runs. Then try running zelda-w. Remember, if a program illegal ops you'll need to defrag your ram or reboot to try again as even if the problem is fixed the old program in memory may fuck it up. So ya, try that.

The Windows version was made with the intention of it being able to run on an XP machine with no problems. On Windows ME, the DOS version worked much better than the Windows version, but now I require the Windows version to run on XP.

The windows version works when you are using 98. And I am pretty sure that the Z3 sound have nothing to do with the internal error. It happens to so many people that it is obvious that its just the Zquest version. I'm pretty sure.
