Wow, so that's why they call it "Famicon" in Japan. I mean it probably wouldn't be a good for a kid to say "I'm hooked on my casino. I can't stop playing."

then again in japan, they have entire halls dedicated to pinchinco games. it's like slots over there. my dad has 2 or 3, and i'm trying to acquire one for the dorm room:thumbsup:

It's Famicom, lol....

I knew that...they used to make trading cards with lil suprises in some selected packs.

I always thought Nintendo meant "Leave luck to heaven"... I seem to remember reading some articles about it in the past. I'll have to go and check.

Alright, here's what Nintendo means. From the book Game Over (A History of Nintendo):

"Yamacuchi founded Nintendo Koppai in Meiji 22 (1889), to produce and sell the homemade cards. The kanji characters he chose to make up the name of his new company-nin-ten-do- could be understood as "Leave luck to heaven," or "Deep in the mind we have to do whatever we have to do." The most common reading of it was "Work hard, but in the end it is in heaven's hands."


Nintendo does not mean casino.

Think about it: "Leave luck to heaven" "casino"

Is there really a difference? Remember that it can be very difficult to translate stuff from Japanese to English and vice-versa.

Nin Ten Do literally translates to:

"We do the best we can, with what we can, and await the results".

Um, I guess it translates into American Culture as "Leave luck to Heaven". Then again, I think that's what luck is to begin with...kinda like using a word to define it.
