Hmmm, well, good thing it only lasted an hour.
Were these 'root servers'to be crippled then many things that happen in the world today, would near enough cease or become very hard to accomplice...

Granted, this could be some form of 'cyber ransom'

The plot thickens...

did you read another article linked from it where it said it was possible to destroy most of the internet in 15 minutes?

No did not see that link, but I believe it.
To think that the WWW is handled by 13 main servers, and 9 went down during this attack. But nice to know that it was handled well. Most people didn't even know about it.

heh. I think it's so amusing how practically no one noticed. =)

Yeah, but when was it? I was probably somewhere else at the time.

I was at work. Otherwise, I would have noticed.

As long as my website isn't taken down I'm happy. :spin:

Bah I was at work at this time.
In fact I think it would be good thing if the www would get destroyed for a day or two, people would get off their lazy ass and we would see everyone playing outside instead of jerking off to porno 24/7

Outdside? Thbbpt, screw that. Not as long as we have all our games that don't require the internet.

Actually if the internet were down for like 2 days, i bet a bunch of people would commit crimes, or suicide. ;p

That may be quite possible. Web addicts. :p

No. Those 13 servers are the main DNS servers, the ones which handle the conversion of IP addresses to domain names. When you type in a domain name (like armageddongames.net) into your browser, the request is sent to the DNS server and that has a record of what IP or IPs are for armageddongames.net. Then it tells your ISP to access that IP address and loads the page for you.

Those lists of domains and IP's on the 13 DNS servers are copied by thousands of Internet Service Providers and they store them on their own DNS servers. The more those sites are accessed, the more other private servers they are stored on.

Something like only 8 percent of domain name requests are only handled by the DNS servers.

Not a really smart attack since the lists are copied thousands of times over on other servers that are used more anyway :)

Seems that Al Qaeda has hired some decent h@xors, or someone got bored and wanted to screw up the net. I've gone weeks without the net, so I don't think that I'd have to resort to suicide. Maybe I'd start reading again though.
