OK, I'm starting to get pissed. I found out that WinMX works on my campus network, so I've been happily acquiring Invader Zim and Futurama episodes. My problem is with .avi files. For some reason, about 90% of the .avi files I download play with no sound. I've tried them in Windows Media Player, Winamp, and the DivX player, and in all three players they play with no sound. Now, I've been cool with it until today, when I finally finished downloading the Clerks episode I've been in queue for about 6 days has no sound. I'm getting rather pissed, and I find it improbable that so many people download videos with no sound and keep them anyway. What do you guys suggest I do?

I assume you have all the correct codecs, correct?

I assume you have speakers plugged in, turned on and turned up?

I also assume you have installed all related drivers that have something to do with sound?

:P

Download the AngelPotion thing-o- and install it on yer puter(its all the new codecs)

Speakers is a good thing to check. Of course, if you already have other sound, then that may not be the problem.

I use Realplayer. Try that?

Yes, the speakers are working, I'm listening to Billy Squier - The Stroke right now. I'm unsure about codecs, because I have no frickin idea where to get codecs. I figure it's probably a problem with my codecs.

90% of avi files these days are Divx.

Head to download.com and get the latest codec for that (also comes with it's own player so no need to worry about that), it should be in a bundle package of some sort (codecs + player).

If it's just your average .avi file, it's probably more or less either the indeo or angelpotion codecs. In which case, head to http://video-codec.8m.com/codecs.htm to fill those needs.

You say you download this at school? And do the teachers know? Do you have a firewall?

Damn you are a lucky fuck.

Hermit: Every link on that page is broken. Is there another page like that that works?

Try either of those if you wish, sorry about dead links on last one... I didn't check
