I amm looking for a free/trial program that allows me to record movies of what is on my screen, and output them to a movie file (avi, mpeg realmedia etc.) has anyone ever used one and can recommend me to one?

I'm going to give you a link, which will have answers for most of your questions. Also, you'll be able to find out how make vcds, svcd, and especially dvds. Its http://www.vcdhelp.com. For caputring whatever is on your screen, you might need a type of card in order to do that.
