I am having a problem with ZC/ZQ for Windows. Every time I try to open ZC 163/103 Win or ZQ 163 Win, I get the following error message:

ZQUEST(or ZC)-W caused an invalid page fault in
module ZQUEST(or ZC)-W.EXE at 0167:0046b3ee.

I have tried redownloading, but with no luck. I don't know what to do. Can someone help me? My DOS versions work fine though.

Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is maybe youre missing the allegro40.dll

I've attached it here in case you don't... if this is the case simply place it in your ZC directory.

Edit: sorry it was too big to attach =/

http://teilyr.tripod.com/alleg40.zip. (319 KB)

Note: Right click the url and select save target as. Else, it won't work.

Missing would then result in nothing or an error declaring the dll missing.

What I've found is some Allegro dlls are different than others (that's never good) and also I've found that you should start Zquest-W.exe before ever starting Zelda-W.exe

I suggest you delete the allegro.log (if its there), the ag.cfg, and the zelda.sav

Deleting the zelda.sav is optional. Anyways, next start Zquest-W and play a midi or something, open a quest. Then exit and try Zelda-W again. It may work fine then.

I tried redownloading the Allegro file and what Mottzilla said, but still nothing. I do have the ZQuest working though. But the ZC won't even open.

What OS are you running? If it's XP, I'll direct you to one of my friends.

Now what friend could that be? ;)

Well, I've been having the same exact problem. Must have downloaded it 5 times. ZC finally did work, though. So I played a little bit. But all of a sudden, it decided not to work again. The weird thing is, ZQ always works. When I try to get into ZC, it either doesn't come up at all, or an error message comes up saying sorry for the inconvienence, but Zelda Classic.exe is not working. The problem started when my comp. crashed and I upgraded to XP, btw.

and ZC doesn't work..? See, now that's odd. .. Have you tried a clean install?

Like.. uninstalling it, erasing everything (cept for your quest files. ;)) and reinstalling?

I have multiple times. I thought for sure this was just an XP problem, but if the same thing is happening to you, RPGAngel, then it must not be. I have no idea what's going on.

I had the problem where ZC didn't work, but ZQ did. Somehow, I managed to fix it, but I'm not exactly sure how. Try this and tell me if it works: download ZC, ZQ, all the files, ect., put them all in one folder located directly on the C drive. Meaning don't put them in a folder in a folder in a folder. Just everything in one folder directly on the C Drive.

Example: C:\ZCBeta163

I did that, and it seemed to work for me. =/
