It can now be clearly certain that Napster is about to come crashing to a halt; with this blockage reported by Bertelsmann, there is next to no hope for the music service.

Most recent article as of this post, updated 8:21 p.m. (EST, just over three hours prior to this post): http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20020904/music_nm/napster_10

This is a big story. I have nine links in my news update concerning this, and I bet I'll hear more about it for days to come.

Since when can the government decide what foreigner's can and cannot buy. It's a load of crap. Stupid government.

Actually, it was the music industries. I guess they wanted the sale "reviewed" - that is, they paid someone a lot of money. Upon "review", the money-grubbing suits got their way, as usual.

They just need to let Napster die with dignity. Don't get me wrong, I loved Napster for what it was. It was the absolute best p2p music swapping software, and I don't think anyone will be able to reach that point again. That includes Napster itself. It will never reach it's former glory, and I really don't think anyone will use this new Napster, even if it is a name people recognize.

We've embargoed many nations in the past. Blocking certain types of foreign trade is one of the necessary functions of government. Other governments can use nasty trade tactics to try and cripple our economy. We have to have some way to defend ourselves.

Napster is dead. We all need to just get over it and use other programs.

For example, the goverment severly limits the power of encryption we can sell overseas. I find it silly now with the internet, but thats the way the goverment works.

Does WinMX have a Linux version? LinMX?

I've no need for Napster... I have Gnutella, however slow it may be... Wish I had KaZaA or Morpheus...
