I found this mod that changes the Quake code to run like Doom 3. Yes thats right it adds stencil shadows and per pixel lights to quake.
Right off the web site.

Tenebrae is a modification of the quake source that adds stencil shadows and per pixel lights to quake. Stencil shadows allow for realistic shadow effects on every object in the game world. Per pixel lighting allows you to have fine surface details correctly lit. These are essentially the same algorithms as used by the new Doom game.
Tenebrae "should" run on a lot of graphics cards, first I will give some explanation about what card is best for tenebrae. (I don't say it's THE best card)
1) Geforce 3,4
These use only 2 passes per light and are the fastest cards to run tenebrae on.
2) Geforce 1,2
These require 6 passes per light and are decent cards to run tenebrae on.
3) Others
Those others are actually ATI cards since those are the only ones that support all the necessary (ARB_)extensions for tenebrae. These cards span just like geforce cards several generations so performance may differ.
It brought my PC down to it's knee's. I have a Radeon and this doesn't like ATI cards seeing he used a Nvidia SDK kit. Anyone with a Geforce should run this fine.
The great thing about this is that it makes Quake look like Doom3. Would be interesting to see what someone could do to Quake 2 or other games that have a sourse code.
You can download it for PC here (http://users.pandora.be/hollemeersch/blackrose/tenebrae/tenebrae_bin.zip).
You need a copy of quake.
Some pictures for you all to druel over.

Very interesting how the lights change when he moves away.
Screenshot #2 (http://www.users.qwest.net/~amerrill/quake/snap0077.jpg)
Is that shadow effects I see there?
Screenshot #3 (http://www.users.qwest.net/~amerrill/quake/tenebrae_quake_64tap_4xfsaa2.jpg)
More shadowing effects and some cool bump mapping.
Check out the rest of the pics here (http://www.users.qwest.net/~amerrill/quake/)
