I got tired of the black box around my game window. So, I figured I'd share my 45 minutes of res tweaking with the rest of you folks, if you're also tired of the black box. These are for an sbig=0 windowed ZC environment. If anyone knows the res settings for a bigger sbig, please feel free to contribute. :)

resx = 255
resy = 225

Enjoy your new no black box game. :D

hmm, interesting, it cuts the black box alright... but it cuts the ends of the AGN file logo aswell o_o

Add the -fast switch to the command line. ;)

I'll try it in the DOS version and see how good it works (if it does at all, I dunno if one can use that resolution :lol: ). Might make ZC look awesome by filling up the monitor.

I felt like taking the time to figure out the resolution to ditch the black box, but never got around to it. Good job man. :thumbsup:

Edit: Nope, the DOS version just runs at 320x240 instead. :laughing:

Hmm... I better try this sometime...

For those who don't like squinting to see ZC and use SBIG, here's your resoluton:

resx = 510
resy = 450

:D

ZC = 320x240, NES Zelda 256x224

Hence the extra space. DEAL WITH IT. ;p

Almost forgot to mention. If you have crappy comp like I do, and can't run SBIG at a frame rate over 22/60, adjust your resolution to 800x600, if it's higher.

Hopefully, most of you guys knew that, but I just like to cover all bases. :)

I tried both settings with beta 152 and it just bombed with "application generated errors and will be closed." :( This is on a Win2000 box, btw. Oh, well. I guess I'll just live with the borders. Maybe it will work with beta 163, but I've been playing DoY lately, so...

Upgrade to 163. That should fix your prob... I think. I didn't use any betas between 104 and 163.

As I said, I have b163 too. I've been using b152 lately though to play C-Dawg's DoY quest. I did try b163 since I posted and I get the same error. I think there is a problem with odd resolutions. It worked with standard resolutions like 640X480, 800X600, and so on. It's just resolutions like 255X255 (or more properly 256X256) and 510X450 that make it crash and burn. I wonder if changing video drivers will work? Hmm. I'm currently using 3DFX-Underground drivers with my Voodoo3.

For those of us who are completely at a loss:

How and where do you put in these settings?

Edit ag.cfg.

I got it working using 256x256! All I had to do was painstakingly figure out the timing value (using advv which is for AdvancedMAME) and add the mode to the registry. Now I have full screen glory! :king:

ZC uses 320x240 for the very purpose of compatability as not all PCs can do 256x256. =\

If need be, I'll do a step by step with screenshots for the computer illiterate.
