There you go, straight from the FTC. The main thing that would trouble me here if I used Passport is that Microsoft claimed not to track your usage of Passport when, in fact, it did.

You should be shot for using Passport to begin with.

It's not terribly surprising, really. We already knew MS knows nothing about security, and doesn't really give a damn about people.

I don't. I saw a report about this on CNN when I was on vacation.

Not you exactly Cloral. People who use Passport. The subject "you" was undirected.

Other than windows 98 I don't really use microsoft products anyway. Certainly not anything internet based.

Passport, ug. It's all part opf Ms's rather insecure .Net plan.

And MS lieing to me, what new about that? They've been doing that since 1996!

Even though I hate MS almost as much as I hate fanatics, I hope this does not turn into another bash MS topic, they almost always result in minor flame wars.

EDIT: this exact same thing happenned with Windows Media Player, but the FTC hasn't done anythign about it because apparently spyware is not illegal here.

Personnally, I could care less about my windows partition, it really doesn't mean much to me. Microsoft is lying to me? Hell yeah. does it effect me? Nope.

If I find any spyware in linux, however, and I will not be a happy camper. heh.

I guess it all comes down to how much you care about people watching your activity. Personally, I don't mind.. It's nothing different than when I was in school, and the teacher used to get on my ass for looking at porn during study hour.. Microsoft's just the invisable teacher.

However, the thought that Microsoft keeps 3 unfed code readers locked in a 1 room shanty with no doors out in the woods to sit there and watch where people go on the internet strikes me amusing.

Well, I didn't see it because the topic was buried a few pages back.

And I can't believe that someone wouldn't care if they had agreed to a legal document that later turned out to be fradulent. I mean, imagine if you drew up a legal doucument and got a few people to agree to its terms and to sign it. Later, these people found out that several of the terms of the agreement were blatently false. What would happen to you? You'd probably go to jail. Why shouldn't the same thing happen to these corporate offenders?
