How much an hour/year does a programmer make on average??? I was just wondering.. ..oh.. and I live in the US if it makes a difference.. :kawaii:

Based soley on the amount of work a programmer does, he/she deserves about $200,000 a year. However, most programmers are paid between $40,000 and $150,000, depending on what they do, where they work, and how much they work. Its one of those things you have to do for the challenge and enjoyment of it, instead of the money. It takes a lot of dedication.

Ditto with vegeta. Programming is sooooo fun, especially when you're using it to make stuff like games. I love computers, and would probably be up there in terms of ability with inori or vegeta, but I'm only 15 and am unable to take any classes. Oh, and the money is real nice as well, despite the vast amount of work we have to do.

It depends who you work for and what you are working on. You could find a site perhaps that may give a average rate or estimate. I really don't care about money from doing it, I just wanna program things for the fun of it. :p

Thx, guys!! I'm thinking of becoming either a computer programmer, or a game programer... I was thinking about an architect, but I don't think I'd enjoy that too much...

umm..No.. See, I'm 15, and I'm already taking English Comp 1 this fall...(plus 10th grade and piano lessons...;) ) Next semester, I'll be going full time... So just because you're 15 dosen't mean anything! :kawaii:

He means that because he is at the age of 15, he hasn't had to take the college courses as, well, people in college.

Well, I've had OZ for a while, and from what I've done of scripting in small, programing should be just as fun!! I enjoy it... :D I just hope I can get one of the programing jobs that pays 150 instead of 40 a year!! :blah:

One thing to keep in mind is that salaries have gone down some, and jobs have become hard to find, with the economic problems of the tech sector of the economy. However, I wouldn't expect that to last forever.

In any case, I'm hoping a grad degree from Berkeley can help make up for such problems...

I've noticed a slight problem with AGN: there are 2 types of job I'd really like to do - either physics research, or programming.
pretty much all the population of AGN that are older than me (I'm 15 as well) are sooo much smarter than me in one of these areas. Of course, being in england, I'll have a nice little advantage once I'm through college. Namely, cambridge, (specialises in computers and physics - also has Stephen Hawking while he's alive) and Rare would be a good company to work for, if they have any vacancies

Mini-me - 10th grade... you start school about 2 years later than here... I'm in year 11 next autumn... is that right? or do you start one year later? I have no idea what you mean by english comp 1 :confuse2:

I'd probably be up there in terms of ability with --insert some good AGN programmer here-- if I could be ar**d. My problem is that I'm very, very lazy. :)

Gdorf got it. UNfortunetely, my age does not permit me to take any classes or to get any training experience. Basically, the only things I can depend on are my books, tutorials, and my own wit and intelligence. Trust me, first chance I get, I AM taking a class :D .

satanman: They may not call it the same thing where you live... We have 1 year of English in College here, and the first semester is called that... or you can just call it 1st sem. Eng. ...oh well... I don't know... I've never failed/gotten held back a grade(obviously..(I'm going to college!)), and I started Kindergarden when I was 5... of course now they have Pre-K here... What year did you start??

J250: Why does your age not permit you??? Where do you live, that they won't let you go to college???

Well, also considering I'm only in 10th, going to 11th grade is another factor. i live in Orlando FL. There is an online class I could take, except that it's been full since the last fall's semester. Oh, and I'm 15, like I said above.
