what did you expect for her first appearance in 3-d? lara croft worthiness?! besides, its not the shape that matters. :P but aeris does fit in my list for several reasons.
1. she's too :kawaii: to have been killed off. even if it was part of the plot.
2. i have a thing about female magic users. :P

Um.. Shiva is male. In every FF game Shiva is in, Shiva is definatley male, despite appearences
Squaresoft takes form many religions and myths when making their games, and FF is no different. Shiva is a Hindu God of destruction and his wife is Kali. He is sometimes depicted with a very feminine figure, which at times leads to confusion.
On a humorous note I once saw a statue of Shiva in a feminine form with only one boob.
