Hi. I am new to the AG Forums and still fairly new to ZC. I have a question reguarding the playing of midis in ZC(when a quest is being played). I can't hear any midis when I play the quests. The sound effects are fine though. I've tried manually putting the info for the midi player(MPU-401), but no luck yet. I really wish I could hear the midis. I can't even test the music on my own quest. I think I have the Dos versions of ZC. Where could I get the WIndows versions, if that could help? I hope I put this in the right forum, if not, I'm sorry. Thanks for any help you can give.

Open the ag.cfg file in Notepad. Under [sound] make these changes:
midi_card = MPU
midi_volume = -1

http://boards.armageddongames.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58084 Windows version is here, it might have some bugs though, as it is a beta

There can be much problems regarding sound in ZC windows...
DOS is a bit easier to fix!

I tried the changes JayceM suggested, but it didn't work. It seemed to accept the changes, but still no sound. One thing the setup keeps doing that I don't know why is, when I go to test the midi sound is change the 10 I put in for the interrup part(manually) to a 16. Could that cause the sound problem? Thanks BigJoe for the link. I'm going to try the new ZC and see if it does any different for the sound. The setup for my MPU-401 is: setup 300-307 and interrupt of 10. I tried changeing the setup number to another one in the range, but only the 300 works. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

What sound card do you have? Are the drivers installed correctly?

Sorry for the second post allready, but I have a question about the ZC163. I just installed it, but am not sure which quest files can be used with it. Is it just the 192 files, or is it like the ZCbeta windows, (the player only one) and able to play any of them? Just want to check before I try playing anything. Thanks again.

163 can play all of them. Just becareful playing 152 quests in there. If the designer didn't update to 163 there will probably be bugs in the quest.

Thanks Praethus. ZeldaLord. it is soundblaster, I think. That is the one AGsetup picks when I do the auto detect. But the sound effects are fine, it's just the midis, no background music.

It never happened like that for me... Do the sound effects get grainy after a while? I belive there is a sound problem in these later betas, there was a thread on how to fix it, I'll try to find it.

EDIT: Here (http://boards.armageddongames.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55626) it is. :)

Thank you everyone for your help, but I still have no midi sound. I tried everything you all suggested too. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to make do with the sound effects. At least I do have them. I appreceate your trying to help me though.

This is a bug. Soundblaster is always supported and still nothing worked.

You're not trying to use the DOS version on windows XP, by any chance, are you? That's a common problem.

No, I have Win98.

This is weird...

I think this is a bug, it just shouldn't happen.

Do you have an open program sound? If you do this could be the problem. If a sound is playing when ZC starts up it might disable the sound in ZC.

Close all other programs. Or perhaps you don't have enough ram...

There is the sound of the fire when zc starts, on the screen with the fire on it. And I have 63.0 mb of RAM. Is that enough?

Yes.

Hopefully DN (Dark Nation, if you don't know) will take a look at this.
