Does anyone around here play MUDs anymore now that we're in the age of high-quality graphic MMORPGs? I personally do play, on Realms of Despair; I find it nostalgic as well as a lot cheaper.
Anyone else?

I don't but I know that they are still quite popular.
I would play them if I were more of a fan of multi user RPGs.

You... pay for MUDs? o_o

As for me, I don't play 'em much anymore. They're geared too much towards powergamers and leveling.

I used to, and I'd love to again. Back in 1998 there was this kick ass texted base MUD called Worlds at Ruin (W.A.R.) where you walk around and fight and stuff, but you couldn't interact with anyone else. If that games does still exist I can't find it, and it's probably dramatically updated.

And Utopia, what a game. If anyone has played this game they'd understand what I'm talking about. It just got to boring, it was too simple.

Skatche: Of course not. I was saying that MUDs are cheaper, as in free.

I played RoD for quite a while a few years ago... I got to level avatar ( 50 ) without power leveling or anything gay. Is it still the same, or anything different?

No idea, I'm relatively new there myself. I'm level 48, and will hopefully reach 50 soon. (If I don't keep dying, that is.)

I tried getting into them, but they were too full of people who knew what they were doing...

Uhmm... I think the acronym is "Multi-User Dungeon" or something like that. They're text-only RPGs where you go around killing people and creatures, hoarding money, and buying better and better equipment with which to kill more people and hoard more money.
