No not mental help. I want to start playing the guitar but the problem is I don't know a good kind to get. I want to get a electric guitar because I have a small bit of expierience from school. Remembver though I am a beginner.

no. Get an acoustic. Acoustics help a lot. Your fingers will get tougher and stuff. Trust me.

Your best bet now is to get something by Fender. They make good guitars(AlexMax would agree). Another good brand is Gibson, they make the les paul which is a sweet guitar.

About how much would they cost, I dont want something wildly expensive. Also do you knowof any guitar/amp packages that are afordable.

Well, the prices vary from store to store as do the guitar/amp packages. If you don't want anything wildly expensive then you should probably stay away from the les paul. A good Fender, like a Stratocaster, can cost you upwards of $200.

Stay away form e-bay because you will end up having to repair anything you buy from there.

And Decipher is right. Get an acoustic if you are serious about playing. If you just want to goof around and don't care, get an electric because they look neater.:)

Cool Decipher. Is it an electric acoustic or regular acoustic? Do you have a pickup for it?

hehe BTW this topic inspired me to pick a new avatar. :D

Fenders are good to start on I guess...but I play bass and not guitar.

Fenders are nice, I like them, but everyone has different preferences.

What I would recommend is to go find a local music shop and try a bunch of different kinds of guitars and different amplifiers. See which one gives you the sound you want and feels comfortable to you.

I played a bass the other day. Basses are cool, but i couldnt get used to the not being able to hit more than one stringa t a time, without it sounding junky...
*sigh*
