Image loading

Does anyone know why sometimes big images will load in Internet Explorer as they are being downloaded while other times the browser will wait until the image is fully downloaded to show it? I'm reading the Ocarina of Time manga and the scans are showing after its been fully downloaded now where it was showing bit by bit before.

Sometimes when tables are nested in tables in html code, they have to finish reading them before they start to display stuff.

Also, each browser has their own way of doing things, it's hard to tell.
