I tried a PC Booster thing and messed with the startup image for my Windoze 98. It didn't work, and now I have no startup image.

Does anybody know the key in the registry that sets the startup image, as well as the location of the default one?

Nobody ever use one of these stupid PC Booster things... they suck! I had to uninstall it in Safe Mode to make my system boot. :mad:

the startup images are usually logo.sys or something, i cant remember.... look for those files...

i think that this is correct, if i am wrong, please correct me

I'll take a look for it. I'd like to be able to tweak it so it has a penguin on it. :lmao:

I still don't know where that setting is in the registry. But, I did find out how to set it back to the default with the PC Booster, so things are running properly again.

logo.sys on C:\ is a 256 color bmp. Be careful if editing it. If you use a 24 bit bmp who knows what will happen... what i do it open it in paint, then copy paste in from another file what i want it to be. That's a "safe" way to do it. And I always backup my old logo.sys

Ok, that helps. Thanks a lot. :)

Note: If you delete LOGOW.SYS and LOGOS.SYS altogether, Windows will exit to DOS instead of shutting down
Heh, I got rid of mine on purpose, but I didn't know that deleting the files stops it from going off. I'm going to try that.

And the thing that you need to do to get the logo back is this:
-open Msdos.sys in notepad or something

[Paths]
WinDir=C:\WINDOWS
WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS
HostWinBootDrv=C
UninstallDir=C:\

[Options]
BootMulti=1
BootGUI=1
DoubleBuffer=1
AutoScan=1
WinVer=4.10.1998
Logo=0
and make logo = 1
Edit: oops, took too long to post.
2nd edit: Fiddlesticks! Guitar Picks! My computer shuts off automatically, so removing the file makes no difference.

Yeah, I shut mine off too. It just takes longer to start up with it on.
