How the heck are they made? I don't know anything about how they're created or on what basis they're accepted.

Knowledge of graphics manipulation and HTML are a plus. Other than that you should just save the main AGN page and then just open the HTML and edit stuff.

Well the logo in the upper left is the centerpiece of any theme. Its good to know how to make cool graphics and such. ;)

I use PSP7. ;)

The trick is not to use the solid colors that come default with paint programs. Primary colors look awful.

Pastels, tints, and shaded, darker colors look the best.

I kind of like the Final Fantasy theme... it's only problem is that there's no color, and therefore starts to get boring after a while.

I like the tenchi muyo theme. That's what I'm using to make my Sonic the Hedgehog theme (the basis I mean). Anyways, like before keep the color brightness to an extreme minimum while no making the colors look swamp like. The sonic theme actually used the default colors first, then when JJ realized that they were bad on the eyes, I did too. A little experimentation and i go the colors the way I wanted them to be.

Experimentation. The only way anything good comes out of your work :) .

how about a white background with yellow or neon green letters?
