If this goes through all the way to the next full version, Microsoft Internet Explorer will lose a good chunk of market share rather quickly.

30% of all web users use AOL.
And something not mentioned too much in the artcle is the beta testers opinions on the switch. Since they already get to use the newer version. Anyhow, they have had a largely positive view.

::vegeta does a little dance::

Yes! Way to go AOL! I personally can't wait for Mozilla 1.0 final. Release candidate 2 out, so it won't be long now...

(fear not, I'm will still mainly use Opera, but I think my bro will like it since he's used to using Netscape)

UPDATE: I just read the article, but it was a little confusing. Gecko is the Mozilla engine right? I was skimming to see a hands down "AOL is switching to Mozilla".

Gecko is the Mozilla engine, yes.

And when/if this happens, maybe AOL won't suck anymore.

Yes it will. IE wasn't the problem. Its AOL's crappy service.

What's this got to do with Motzilla?

*Meta casts Blizzara on 'typo T'*

*Meta did 629 damage*

its mozilla, not motzilla.

i might like AOL a bit more if it has some *ehem* weapons against the popups...

I'm currently beta testing the new version of AOL 7.0 with Netscape Gecko, and it runs MUCH more faster, more stable, and more smooth then Microsoft's IE. I'm glad that AOL is willing to break a long-standing taboo. Although AOL's still not going to be perfect, but just imagine AOL with a Netscape-based engine...

Yep. Good to hear we have a beta tester here to back up my claims.

I need to say one thing though.
AOL is using the Mozilla Gecko renering engine for these tests. They aren't using the entire Netscape browser or the whole Mozilla browser. They messed up with Netscape 6.x, somehow they slowed down the gecko engine. With Mozilla it shows it's true power; and from what I understand, AOL's betas do too.

(Hoping tw is listening) Aol-Time warner is great! They are the best company on Earth. (Maybe now I will get those extra premiem channels.)
Actually it is good that they are moving away from IE. Now if we can only get rid of Outlook and Outlook Express. Half those email-viruses will be gone. And the other half lonely.

Just don't use Outlook.
Use something like Eudora or Mullberry, they work better in most cases.

Heh. It's going to be funny when AOL gains enough market share that MS can sue them for antitrust. I mean, come on. When Nutscrape and AOL first sued MS, they were their own companies, and it did look like they were beeing bullied. Then, all of a sudden, Nutscrape merged with AOL and AOL merged with Time-Warner. All of a sudden AOL and Nutscrape weren't small companies anymore. Now, AOL's got 30% of web traffic. Hehehe. I can't wait.
