I don't think there's anything wrong with and I'm sure there is no rule against replying to a topic when you have something to reply with, as long as your not bumping it, and your not replying when you could have just edited and added on to your previous post. No need to start a new topic about something if you wanted to add to a topic that had become old. I've done it a few times and even asked to make sure. The double posting "rule" is to stop people from bumping topics and spamming a topic with posts.
