Zelda wasn't the only Nintendo game to have a CD-I game...

"Super Mario's Wacky Worlds"

In the news post about "Never Released CD-i Prototype Games" they have 2 screen shots of the demo and briefly talk about it. They say it was a precursor to Super Mario World, but there's no way since the graphics are from Super Mario World, the name even pulls from "Super Mario World", and that game came out in 1991.

I might think that its just a joke and those are fake pics (of Super Mario's Wacky Worlds") for a joke, but after looking at the CD-I Zelda screen shots...

I wouldn't be surpried if they were real. Phillips did have a deal with Nintendo on developing a cd add-on to the SNES, which allowed them to develop games with characters copyrighted by Nintendo.

The above Zelda CD-i shots are of a "fake" game?

I was refering to the awful Super Mario's Wacky World screenshots being fake, and then dismissing that idea because of the awful looking Zelda CD-I games.

you forgot Mario's Hotel (I think that was the name).. that one was actually released.. it was some sort of gay-ass puzzle game..

Which reminds me, I have a magazine somewhere with a really really early screenshot of SMW which sort of looked like that, only the graphics were not SMW graphics, they were more cartoony "black outline filled with color" type graphics (similar to the SMW graphics, but more crude basically). I think it had a castle-like area in the background with water and Mario and a Koopa Troopa standing on a ledge w/ grass.. maybe this summer I can dig up the magazine and scan it. I remember it mentioning that Mario could "walk on walls" :D I guess they were refering to the triangle blocks..

edit: when I say they sort of looked like that, I mean the ledges and stuff were kind of drawn like that ice ledge is in that picture, more cartoony-like..

The earliest preview of Super Mario World I have is the first issue of EGM I got with Bonk on the cover. It was about 4 pages long and they called Yoshi, Dino. I remember looking at it, but not really being necessarily excited at first, but then looking at it again later on and wanting it. It showed "Dino", Bowser and his Koopa kids, and Mario's new abilities. I remember during that time I saw advertisements of the Japanese art with the title "Super Mario Bros. 4" and "Super Mario World" a little bigger on that big map with all that stuff going on in it. The picture was awesome, and better than the simplistic one we got of Mario riding Yoshi.

I didn't know about Mario's Hotel.

It was in some wierd magazine I had never heard of.. I guess my dad bought it for me or something.. it was definately before SNES was out, and I remember it even had a Mega Man 2 strategy guide in it (not to say MM2 had just come out, the guide might have been a bit old or something).. It was very early tho.. at least 1990..

Edit: Had it backwards.. it was Hotel Mario :D

Those scenes from Zelda CD-I look like Bad European animation. Which would make sense since Phillips is a european company.
