Nightmare and IRC

[Breaker]

Some of you may have known that I've been away for the past two days resulting from computer technicalities. When I resolved the problem and got my computer back up I received some rather disturbing information from a few AGN staff members.

It seems Nightmare has been registering all my alternate nicks (I use BreKKar quite often as a secondary nick) on the IRC chat server and planned on impersonating me in #AGN in an attempt to get me banned/demodded.

The following are just a few random excerpts from the logs given to me by anonymous AGNers;

According to the server's rules and regulations, it is unacceptable behavior to impersonate and or steal a known user's nick.

Not only did he register my alternate nicks, but he faked his information to make it look as if it were me;

I've discussed the situation with many IRCops but since he uses the AOL Internet Provider they cannot Akill him.

I can't possibly see this act of sabotage go unpunished, so I ask your oppinions on what should be done.

i ask that you please give us some slightly more reliable proof that the whammy did that. i've been in the chat a couple times in the past 2 days, and last i checked, decipher was 'brekkar', and he was switching nicks so much someone threatened to boot him, probably moocow.

and there no whowas command. just a WhoIs

i'll believe you when i see a bit more accurate proof.

whoa...wait... nitemare uses AOL? i learn something new everyday

Yes, there were quite a few keeping a full log.
Yes, the fact that he admitted to it is proof enough.
No, you don't know jack shit about IRC and I ask that you avoid any further display of ignorance.

AOL does not use static IPs. Your information changes slightly each time you log onto their server. The IP information for April 3 is all identical, indicating that it was the same person. It is possible to change the "Ilkerman/nWoWhammy" and "*Breaker/*nWo" information just by disconnecting from mIRC, changing the identifying fields and reconnecting.

After checking the server records for nickname services, it shows that the nickname "breKKar was registered on wednesday april 3rd at 6:pm EST (see below). The last IP address to use this nick (see below) matches the IP that nightmare was using earlier this evening. [21:33] *** NJames ([email protected]) has joined #AGN

I was also in the chat at the time nightmare was claiming to have registered "breKKar". This is the context surrounding breaker's excerpt above:

Nightmare shall be kept out of the chatroom for the next week. Also, Nightmare is to PM or Email Breaker with an apology. Once the apology is made and the time served, he may come back to AGN chat.

I did not intend on having Breaker demodded/banned, but I did intend to impersonate him as a joke.

And Breaker doesn't deserve an apology: He deserves nothing for the way he treats members.

Why would you have registered the nick if you only intended for it to be a joke? Like Glenn previously mentioned, you aren't to be unbanned until I recieve an apology from you. (Btw, you are also to give me the password to said nick)

That was part of the joke, so you'd try to become breKKar and you'd find out you couldn't use it. :tongue:

Nightmare, you can change the password of a registered nick. Change it to something simple then give it to Breaker. You stole one of his favorite nicks, and now you will give it back.

Well, maybe Breaker now knows how it feels for when he ganged up on me before. As far as I'm concerned, he may never get it back until he apologizes for that.

Edit: To my knowledge, changing your EMail is possible too.

nightmare, you can also just drop the nickname and allow breaker to pick it up. it's real simple.
you sign on under the nick, input the password so that you're recognized, then type:

/nickserv drop breKKar

although since you seem to be well educated about nick maintenance, i'm sure it had just slipped your mind.

edit: that will also take care of the email issue, although you can change nick associations as well through services if you wish.
