It's beeen awhile since anyone made a topic about fan made games/remakes.

Could people post links to project sites and such again?

Maybe we could compile a list and freeze it at the topic of this forum for people to see.

To start us off,

List:
Metroid Classic (http://www.metroidclassic.com)
Multi-Mario (http://www.sludgegames.com)
Ninja Gaiden 4
Zelda 2 Enhanced
Zelda: Link's Oddyssey
Special Unit Zero
Megaman X True Power
Enhanced Megaman X
Crossover (http://www.thegaminguniverse.net)
Vega Strike (http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/)

http://www.thegaminguniverse.net

Has the following projects (which you can find info about on the forums, little to nothing on the main site yet, and on their own sites if they have any):

Zelda 2 Enhanced (enhanced remake of Zelda 2 on the NES + editor for your own quests)
Zelda: Link's Oddyssey (new game looking a bit like Zelda 3)
Special Unit Zero (Megaman X type game but with Zero instead of X)
Megaman X True Power (Megaman X type game with both X and Zero)
Enhanced Megaman X (remake of Megaman X)
Crossover (currently on hold)

Btw does anyone know what happend to the Megaman project, Megaman Classic or something?

Someone should really make a Metroid clone, because Metroid Classic is, well... Not there after almost a full year of development (translation: DELAYS).
I would help in any way I can.

Getting back on topic...

VegaStrike, originally a Wing Commander clone of sorts. It's a 30 meg download though, so I don't know how good it is, heh...

Yes. Projects like these take time. Esspecially when the people creating it have other things to deal with besides making the game.

Hey, I found two games being made by the same people, which actually don't look too bad. One is Donkey Kong PC, a remake of Donkey Kong, and the other is Super Mario World DX, which is a remake of Super Mario World. I haven't tried the Donkey Kong game, but Super Mario World DX looks like it will be pretty good. It has some bugs, and it isn't perfect, but it's still in development, and what has been done looks great, and it actually plays like Super Mario World. By the way, it will have all-new levels, and there is a level editor available. It's a bit hard to use, though, because it's completely keyboard controlled and selecting tiles and moving the levels is a pain, but the point is, it's customizable. Dang, this is almost a competitor for Multi-Mario (not quite, but almost). Go check them out.

Though not a fan game, Catles of Adventure (http://www.castlesofadventure.com/) plays a lot like a mini-Zelda Classic. It's basicly a game where you run around, find keys, unlock doors, and teleport. Even the editor looks like ZC! If you get this game, make sure to get my maps and sets for it (in the maps section and in the directory). This program can be limiting, but good for begining Zquest users.

Ok, heres the score...
Link's Odyssey is going well (and backed up a million times a day )
At the moment I'm in the process of finishing the engine totally. The New Movement code is complete (now identical to LttP) and all of the standard abilities like picking up objects/pushing pulling etc. are in. At the moment I'm working on adding all of the Items (and in turn the Save System). And here's the big news....Once the engine is complete I will release it as a beta to a select few people to test everything on a specially built map.

NOTE: None of the actual game will be playable, neither will any of the plot be given away - its for testing purposes only

I'll keep you posted.

A long long time ago, before you became a member Breaker and a Kefka were supposedly working on a clone of Final Fantasy 4, but it never happend. It never happend and its been dead for years.
The first big time I can remember the forums going down was about a month or so after AGN switched to Fuitad.net for hosting, and Fuitad.net went down, like maybe last Spring?
Ask GD, "OpenZelda", in the Open Zelda forum about your Open Zelda problems. Open Zelda requires a 3-D card but that is all the info I can offer.

A new version of Zelda 3 Clone has been released.

Z3C now supports Direct3D as well as OpenGL. This will ensure that the program will run most mashines having a 3D graphic card. Currently Direct3D is the default, if you want to use OpenGL you have to edit the config.cfg file (It's plain text and can be opened in Note/Wordpad).
Now to the gameplay. Rupees, bombs, magic bottles and hearts has been added. You can now place bombs which will explode after 5 seconds. A hud has been added as well, so you can see how many rupees, bombs, magic and hearts you have. I had some problems with doors, so they are missing in the release.

Most graphics in the demo quest have been touched up by Strider. Currently it isen't possible to change back to the original tiles, but that will be implemented in one of the next versions.

Hope that I have found every bug in this release. I just found out that it wasn't possible to open the console in the last release if you had an english keyboard layout. Thats fixed now. Further you can change the keys now, you just have t o edit the config.cfg.

I have also uploaded the source of the render_ogl.dll, render_d3d.dll and game.dll. If you are curious how things are working in Z3C you can download them in the download section, but beware, I'm a hobby programmer and totaly self taught so expect some bad coding habits.
You can find the download here: http://www.gmdsoft.de/menne/z3c

I have a broadband connection, and so have tried VegaStrike (http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net).

However, I could not get it to run at anything approaching a useable speed, even on a >1.0 GHz (with GForce 2) machine. I suspect this is due to the game being OpenGL. Anyway, keep this in mind.

I'm sure most of you have heard about this game a million times, but just in case, here is a game that I personally think USED TO BE really awesome. Unfortunatly it costs money to play online now unless you prefer playing for free, but having your account reset each time you go back online. It used to be a massively multiplayer Zelda with more features, but now they've changed the system so much and made it so bad that you can't even tell. If you do check it out, play one of the classic servers as they are faster and more Zelda like.

Not sure if this is quite what you're talking about, but I'm currently working on a pretty intense Prince of Persia modification. I've already converted the 'prince', as well as 'jafar' (now we know where Disney got the name...) and most of the generic 'guards', but I've still got some touching up to do before it' released. The link to some screenshots is in my signature (or if you've disabled sigs for some reason, you can click here : http://snow.prohosting.com/krismarx/OoT.htm).

it's currently in Beata stage (0.3, to be exact) and I'm still looking for more testers, so if anyone is interested, let me know! I'll be happy to let you in on the beta team.

It combines the power-ups of Gradius with the power-ups of R-Type. This means you'll be getting the power orb, satellites, and power shots from R-Type, and you have to shoot enemies to get the power-up items like Gradius. The game is quite fun, but short (5 stages).

Next:
Another Mario clone, you say? This next oddball mixed Super Mario with Castlevania. I thought it was weird myself, but after playing it, the game made sense. The name doesn't though.

Super Mario XP (http://www.acid-play.com/download/super-mario-xp/)

(Description from Acid Play)
Super Mario XP is not very similar to the original. The killing methods are the same ie. jumping on enemies and things like that, except there are more weapons than just the plain old fireball. There are hammers, bommerangs and more. The enemies are all the same but the backgrounds are different.

Enjoy these games.

Note: http://www.acid-play.com, as far as I know, is a FREEWARE site. I have not come across any retail games. If there are retail games on the site, it was not my intention to link to a site that contains these things.

edit:
fixed my [size] tags, and the urls.

Gerudo has the correct links, but for some reason when you click on them from here, a second "/" character gets put in the url after the .com/. Take that out and it will work.

That was really weird. Never done that before. Anyways, I fixed the url's and my size tag. Apparently if you aren't linking directly to a htm or php file, you gotta put the trailing slash.

I posted about this a few months ago, but my Prince of Persia mod has now reached Beta 0.5, and due to a lack of Beta Testers I've decided to make it an open Beta. Head to my site (www.kx-website.com (http://www.kx-website.com)) to download it.

Please do - if people don't tell me what's wrong with it, it'll never get finished.

Also, here's a link to a different thread which featured some Final Fantasy fan games, for those interested in that sort of thing : on the search (http://www.armageddongames.net/showthread.php?t=86726)

I made a shooter awhile back based on Zelda. In it, you play as a Zora who has to blaze her way past several Link Clones. There are seven stages total. I'll put up a link to it soon.

Okay. link.

Let's see if I can find a few screenshots...

- Mega Man Evolution: http://www.thegoodtimeboys.com/games-mme.html
A Mega Man game by the creator of Mega Man Co-Op. Has 32-bit graphics, takes the best of all MM games and brings them together, including 8-bit Robot Masters converted into 32-bit, original music, melee attacks, and other unlockable fighting styles. Must play it to see what I mean. Totally original concepts, but at the same time, still feels like Mega Man.
